POLICE were today unable to confirm whether a knife-wielding man who scaled a signal gantry at Banbury Station yesterday was hit by a Taser fired at him by officers.
The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) is set to launch an investigation into the Taser being used.
It comes after they were contacted by both Thames Valley Police and the British Transport Police following the incident, which lasted for almost five hours.
The man fell from the gantry at about 2pm and was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford where police said he was in a stable condition this morning.
Thames Valley Police spokeswoman Hannah Williams was unable to confirm whether or not the man was hit by the prongs of the Taser.
She said: “The Taser was discharged but, as this incident has been referred to the IPCC, I cannot go into further detail about this until the mode of investigation has been determined by the IPCC.”
