WORKERS at four Oxfordshire Phones 4U outlets are waiting to discover what will happen to their jobs after the telecommunications company faced administration.
It comes after network operator EE joined Vodafone in cut ties with the retailer.
The company employs 22 members of staff at stores in Cornmarket Street, Oxford, Templars Square shopping centre in Cowley and in Banbury.
It also runs a kiosk at Currys’ shop in the Clarendon Centre in Oxford city centre. Phones 4u, which employs 5,500 people nationwide, said stores were closed yesterday pending a decision by the administrators on whether the business could reopen for trading.
It said the decision by EE not to renew its current contract, which is due to end in September next year, was a “complete shock” and meant it would be left without a single network partner after Vodafone said earlier this month that it would not extend its agreement.
The company has asked all staff to turn up to work as normal today to be briefed by managers, and said it intends to pay all workers until further notice.
The Phones 4u website has also gone offline.
