WORK on a £10m “hamburger roundabout” scheme to increase the capacity of a major junction on the A34 is set to start in just over a month.
Oxfordshire County Council expects work on the Milton Interchange to start in late October or early November.
It will involve building a road through the centre of the existing roundabout from the westbound A4130 onto the northbound A34 towards Oxford.
The plans will also include widening the A34 Milton Park link, eastbound A4130 and southbound A34 off-slip approaches.
County councillor David Nimmo Smith, cabinet member for transport, said: “With so much extra housing and employment expected in this area of Oxfordshire it is critical that we create extra road capacity to cope with the extra demand.”
The county council’s cabinet will meet today to decide whether to delegate responsibility for awarding a contract for the scheme to the director for environment and economy and the leader of the council.
A contract is expected to be awarded later this month.
