RUNNERS preparing for next month’s Oxford Half Marathon were treated to a training session with Olympic rowing legend Sir Steve Redgrave.
On Sunday the five-time gold medallist hosted a fitness event for fundraisers for the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation at the Roger Bannister track, in Iffley Road.
Sir Steve – who promotes the foundation’s work helping young people overcome challenges such as poverty, Aids, homelessness and war and is on its board of directors – gave training, injury and nutrition advice to those running for the charity.
The Marlow resident said he has visited the city before because his daughter Natalie is studying at Oxford University.
He said: “We have these training days as something a little bit different, to attract people who haven’t been serious runners before and for who it is a bit of an unknown.
“They get to meet other people in the same position, as well as more experienced runners who can share their knowledge.”
The half-marathon on October 12 is supported by the Oxford Mail.
