THE 74th anniversary of the Battle of Britain will be commemorated this weekend around Oxfordshire.
Parades will be held in Witney, Carterton and Banbury to celebrate the first air battle of the Second World War.
In Witney, RAF reservists 4624 squadron from RAF Brize Norton and 2120 Witney Squadron Air Training Corps will march from Woodford Way at 10.20am to a service at St Mary’s Church.
In Banbury, a parade led by the ATC Band will start at 10.40am outside the Town Hall in Bridge Street, followed by a service at St Mary’s Church, Horsefair, at 11am.
In Carterton the town’s civic and Battle of Britain service takes place at St John’s Church in Burford Road at 10.30am on Sunday.
The service will commemorate one of the most significant moments in the Second World War and the heroism of the Royal Air Force, whoe were dubbed “The Few” by Britain’s wartime leader sir Winston Churchill.
Battle of Britain Week lasts from Monday, September 15, to Sunday, September 21.
