WITH the harvest season in full swing, one market will celebrate its seventh birthday this Saturday.
Wallingford Local Producers’ Market has been selling fresh vegetables and fruits, cakes, breads plus arts and crafts four times a month since 2007.
On Saturday, Wallingford Mayor Jane Titchener will join traders at the town’s Regal Centre to celebrate and cut their birthday cake at 11am.
Market co-ordinator Dennis Jackson said: “I am very pleased the market has survived despite the obvious attraction of supermarkets and chain stores.
“There is still clearly an interest in local produce where you can talk to people who know exactly where their produce comes from.”
On average, about 15 stall- holders, ranging from farmers and cheese makers to jewellery makers and artists attend the Saturday market from 10am to 1pm. The weekly café also serves breakfast, home-made cakes, and hot drinks.
