LIBRARIES across the county will be taking part in a worldwide digital reading event next week.
Oxfordshire Council Council’s library service is encouraging residents to join “National Read an eBook Day” next Thursday.
The event will celebrate modern storytelling to help raise the profile of books not on library shelves.
Lorraine Lindsay-Gale, the council’s cabinet member for cultural services, said: “Books on shelves are not the only offer Oxfordshire’s libraries make.
“The wonders of modern technology allow ebooks to be downloaded free of charge by the library service.
“I encourage people to take part – especially those who have never used eBooks.”
During the day the county’s libraries will be encouraging visitors to take part in competitions organised by digital distributor OverDrive.
Each hour, tablets and devices will be awarded to readers who share their eBook story on social media using the hastag #eBookDay.
The council already offers residents the chance to download free ebooks and audio.
Up to three items can be borrowed for seven, 14, or 21 days using a library card and PIN.
