A WOMAN who lost her battle with cancer is being honoured after years of service within the Bicester community.
Ann Leverton, known as Annie, died of ovarian cancer on May 30 after a four-year battle.
Her family and friends are commemorating her life with a month-long fundraiser to support the hospice that cared for during her final weeks.
Mrs Leverton would have celebrated her 60th birthday on September 23 and her 38th wedding anniversary on September 25.
To mark her birthday, family and friends have rallied together to raise £600 for Katherine House Hospice.
During the last few weeks of her life, the hospice cared for Mrs Leverton before she passed away at home.
A group of about 11 people called Annie’s Owl’s is virtually walking a 605-mile route from John O’Groats to Land’s End this month. Each is walking about 60 miles and in their first week the fundraisers travelled nearly 232 miles, putting them just south of Glasgow.
Mrs Leverton’s daughter Michelle Edwards, from Caversfield, said: “She was a very caring person, she wanted to help everyone. She would do anything, literally anything, for anyone.”
Mrs Leverton first worked in the town at hair salon Pandora’s, before becoming a health care assistant at Bicester Community Hospital, in King’s End.
There she staffed the first aid unit during the night and provided care within the 12-bed hospital for about 10 years.
She then worked as part of both the Woodstock and Bicester district nursing teams for more than six years.
More than 150 residents attended her funeral at Banbury Crematorium in June.
