FOOD, music, dance and Quidditch will be among community attractions lined up at OxfordOxford – the three-day festival in South Park.
OxfordOxford will take place in the park at the bottom of Headington Hill from Friday, September 26 to Sunday, September 28.
There will be a day of cinema on Friday, music on Saturday headlined by nu-rave group Klaxons, and a free community day on Sunday.
Now full details have been revealed about the community groups taking part – and fans of Harry Potter will be able to enjoy a display by Oxford University’s Quidditch Club.
In JK Rowling’s books, Harry and his friends race on broomsticks to catch a ball called a snitch – but students instead play a mixture of rugby and dodgeball.
Local charity Audioscope and Sofar Sounds are also heading for South Park to provide an acoustic stage filled with talent for Sunday – Count Drachma, Duchess and Tamara Parsons-Baker.
Also confirmed are displays by staff from official charity partner, Cowley-based Oxfam.
On Friday, short films showcasing the charity’s work will be shown, and throughout the weekend, an Oxfam stall will display information on current projects.
Regional fundraising manager Ellie Hughes said: “We’ll be there telling people all about how Oxfam is helping thousands of communities worldwide work their way out of poverty, and how it all started right in the heart of this great city.”
Other community organisations taking part include Helen and Douglas House, Pegasus Theatre, Oxford Playhouse, the Ark-T Music Project, the Museum of Oxford and Arts at the Old Fire Station.
London Welsh RFC are also signed up to put on rugby demonstrations on Sunday.
The three-day festival has been organised by Anthony Norris and Owen Kent, from Eleven 11 Events.
Festival director Mr Kent, 28, who studied music at Oxford Brookes University, said he had always dreamt of staging an event in the park that would be a “testament to Oxford’s cultural pedigree through film, music and fantastic community activities”.
The event has organised in partnership with Oxford City Council.
Other acts playing on Saturday are Supergrass frontman Gaz Coombes, London r’n’b star Katy B and Oxford bands Flights of Helios, Balloon Ascents and Robot Swans.
Oxford acts Pixel Fix and Dance a la Plage and Tunng will be playing in the circus-style big top.
Friday’s cinema includes a Grease sing-a-long and a Dirty Dancing dance-a-long.
Tickets will range from £16.75 for the cinema events to £32.50 for Saturday’s day of music.
Crowd capacity ranges from 2,500 for the film day to 10,000 for the other two days.
People living within the OX postcode area will be entitled to discounted weekend tickets at £43.25.
