Emergency works to be carried out by Thames Water will see Queen Street closed today until Saturday.
Buses will be diverted down Castle Street, instead of Bonn Square.
Thames Water spokeswoman Sarah Sharpe said: “The team will be working [24 hours a day] to make sure the work is completed as soon as possible and minimise any disruption.”
