SUMMERTOWN Stars paid their respects to Felix Byam-Shaw as the new season got under way, writes PAUL LYON.
All 18 matches involving Stars held a minute’s silence before kick-off as a mark of respect for the popular captain of their under 15 team, who tragically died in July, aged 14, following a sudden illness while on holiday.
And Summertown got off to a winning start in the Under 15 B League, beating Milton United thanks to a goal from Otto Campbell.
A stunning second-half showing from Wheatley earned them a 9-3 home win over Summertown Comets in the Under 14 C League.
The sides were level 2-2 at the break, but the hosts pulled away in the second half, Harry Cudd and Joel Taylor netting hat-tricks, with Jo Bowley (2) and Jay Bull completing the scoring.
Maro Ramadan struck twice and Ted Stanbury was also on target for Comets.
Summertown Cobras claimed bragging rights over Summertown Eagles with a 4-1 victory in the Under 13 B League.
Eagles took an early lead through a stunning long-range effort from Reuben Haydn, but the Cobras struck back following two quick breaks from winger Tom Bradley, who scored the equaliser and then set up Felix Burton to head home.
Burton scored again in the second half along with Hamish Harrison-Cushing to give Cobras a winning start to the season.
Jonah Hulse netted five goals in Botley’s 9-4 Under 12 E League victory over Didcot Town.
Kahlid Shodunke (2), Noah Sheard and Azaan Hussain also scored for Botley, while Owen Cawley, Jakob McPherson, Thomas Hickman and Nyasha Karuru netted for Town.
In the Under 11 B League, Botley were 5-0 winners at home to East Oxford United.
A brace from George Corti and a James Clanfield strike gave them a 3-0 lead at half-time, with Finley Ludlow and Zach Morey completing the scoring after the break.
Yannick Grogan scored four first-half goals for Cholsey Bluebirds as they took a 5-0 lead into the break against Kidlington Youth in the C League.
Joshua Hutchinson’s 20-yard strike was only a consolation for Kidlington as further goals from Oskar Lambert, Toby Bucknall, Toby Sutton, and Charlie Pressman made the score 8-1 to Bluebirds.
Marshall Mackellar scored four goals as Faringdon Town ran out 6-0 winners against Florence Park in the E League.
Ray Rwodzi and Elliot Hayter completed the scoring for the hosts.
