I am responding to the article entitled “Ambulance service cuts 12-hour shifts to reduce staff fatigue”.
I feel compelled to comment on the consultation alluded to. For true consultation the views of staff need to be listened to and not ignored.
The proposals outlined may well see the shift length reduced to 10 hours but the location of that shift will, in a lot of instances, be away from their usual home base, adding more than two hours on to their day. This is just another way of hiding the true facts and indeed this is a dangerous proposal. The only way for South Central Ambulance Service to improve is to listen and not ignore their staff.
