SUPPORTED by dozens of friends and relatives brave Shannon Timms had most of her hair cut off to raise money for cancer patients.
Shannon, a pupil at Wood Green School, Witney, said she decided to mark her 12th birthday by doing something to help those less fortunate after watching Comic Relief last year – during which pop star Jessie J had her head shaved.
On Saturday, as part of a charity day in aid of CLIC Sargent in North Leigh, near Witney, she said goodbye to her long brown hair.
She said: “I wanted to make a difference on my birthday and I thought not many young girls would probably do this.
“I just feel so sorry for all those children who have to go through having cancer.”
Afterwards Shannon, of Windmill Road, North Leigh, said: “It was a bit scary, but I’m glad I did it.”
Her mum Sarah Buckingham, 37, organised the fun day and said Shannon’s hair would be donated to the Little Princess Trust to make wigs for children with cancer.
She said: “I’m so proud of her, but this is just what she’s like. It’s typical Shannon, so kind and so giving.”
