THE route between Abingdon and Oxford on the A34 is now clear, following heavy congestion this morning.
Queues of vehicles stretched back as far south as the edge of North Abingdon this morning, on the third day of the contraflow system between the Hinksey Hill and Heyford Hill interchanges being in effect.
It was part of the ongoing works at Kennington and Hinksey Hill roundabouts – set to rumble on until November.
Oxfordshire County Council deputy leader Rodney Rose last night said he hoped that a new traffic light-free slip road from the Southern Bypass on to the A34 could help ease congestion going southbound.
There were also reports that the main routes through Abingdon, via Ock Street and Oxford Road, had been hit by slow traffic.
