SOME 34 buildings were without electricity supply today after a power cut.
Both Tesco and Sainsbury's on Magdalen Street were shut as a result of the outage.
However lights were still on in both businesses and customers gathered at the entrance of Tesco, despite not being able to get into the store.
Originally 34 buildings in the area around George Street were affected at 11.30am, SSE said.
Engineers worked to restore power, and managed to do so briefly at 12.30pm. However, the electricity tripped, cutting off customers again.
A SSE spokesman said that 20 buildings were still to be put back on line.
He said: "We apologise for any inconvenience this has caused to our customers.
"We don't know what has caused it yet, but our engineers hope to find out in the next few hours."
