BRITAIN’S Royal connection to Germany was celebrated by a diplomatic visit from Wantage.
Members of the Wantage and Grove German Twinning Group caught up on their Royal history during a trip to Wantage’s twin town Seesen earlier this month.
The 31-strong group were hosted by German families and enjoyed a programme of entertainment, including an exhibition in Hanover marking the 300th anniversary of the Hanoverian link to the British throne.
Chairman Graham Parker said: “We have been particularly lucky this time that our visit coincided with the special exhibition in Hanover. We also had the chance to visit one of the oldest porcelain exhibitions in Europe at Furstenburg on the River Weser and to learn about German Forestry at the Forestry Training Centre. Needless to say we also cheered and enjoyed watching some World Cup football.
“We look forward to repaying the hospitality and generosity of our German hosts next year with an invitation for them to join us here in Wantage next summer.”
He said the Royal exhibition had been the highlight of the week.
Artefacts from King George I, II, III, IV and William IV were on display, the centrepiece being the crown of King George I – on loan from the Queen.
