HOPE Steptoe volunteered to have almost all her hair cut off so another little girl could benefit.

Hope, eight, from Magnette Close, Abingdon, donated her locks to the Little Princess Trust, which makes wigs for children with cancer.

After having her hair cut on Friday, she also raised more than £744 in sponsorship from family and friends that she will also donate to the trust.

Hope, who is a pupil at St Nicolas Primary School in Abingdon, said: “I love my new hair.”

Hope is still waiting for money to come in from Santander staff in the town who held a cake sale for her on Friday, and Gold Care homes where her grandmother works.

She has also yet to count the total from a collection tin on the counter at Established Hair Studio on Stert Street where she had her hair cut.

Hope’s mum Jodie said: “There are thousands of people who take part in the Race for Life every year for adults with cancer, but people don’t think as much about children with cancer.

“If that ever happened to any of my children I would be devastated.

“When I picked Hope up from school on Friday she said she was a bit scared and a bit excited, but after it was done she loved it. She kept thanking the hairdresser.”
