AN OXFORD bar’s controversial plans for a roof terrace are being recommended for approval.
The Art Bar, formerly the Bullingdon Arms, in Cowley Road, has applied to Oxford City Council to convert the existing first floor flat into a bar and roof terrace.
Residents in nearby roads, including Crown Street, have raised concerns about extra noise and drinkers being able to see into homes.
But council planning officer Lisa Green has recommended that councillors should approve the planning application and said conditions could limit extra noise.
She said: “There are concerns regarding the likely noise from patrons using the terrace which could adversely impact on the residents of Crown Street.”
Her report added that the impact of the terrace would be “minimal” if features such as an acoustic fence and a “sound lobby” at the entrance of the terrace were included.
Thee objections were received from Crown Street residents, with others coming from James Street and Rectory Road.
St Mary’s ward councillor Craig Simmons has also objected on behalf of residents in the area.
Members of the council’s west area planning committee will make a decision when they meet at the Town Hall, in St Aldate’s, at 6.30pm tomorrow. The public can attend the meeting.
