A COMMUNICATIONS consultancy used pedal power to cycle 647 miles and raise more than £2,000 for charity without ever leaving Oxford.
Employees at BOTTLE, based at Oxford Science Park, took it in turns to keep the pedals of an indoor gym bike moving from 9am to 5.30pm every day from June 30 to July 4 to raise money for games charity SpecialEffect.
The Charlbury-based charity develops special equipment which allows people with disabilities to play video games. Social media manager Emily Mukalazi said: “Everyone was getting very protective of their personal bests and having the bike in the office meant it got quite competitive.”
The challenge was streamed online and Oxford singer-songwriter Nikki Loy made an appearance to help boost donations and played guitar as she rode the bike, donated by the David Lloyd gym.
Managing director Will Cairns, said: “SpecialEffect is a very worthy charity.”
SpecialEffect’s Mark Saville, said the money raised would help people with disabilities to take part in every day activities most people taken for granted. Anyone who wants to donate to SpecialEffect can do so at justgiving.com/bottle-pr
