A MAN is raising money for a second defibrillator in Kennington, following a campaign by a senior ambulance manager for 200 more devices to be installed across the county.
There is already a device, which treats patients suffering cardiac arrest by giving an electric shock to the heart, outside the village centre in Grundy Crescent, but resident Leo Boles wants to install another one elsewhere in the village.
He is selling tickets for a mini cruise to Guernsey, with proceeds going towards buying a defibrillator, which would cost up to £1,800 with a secure storage box so it can be put on an outside wall.
Mr Boles said: “A community this size could really do with more than one defibrillator and I will put it most likely at the other end of the village.”
It comes as the Oxford Mail reported how South Central Ambulance Service divisional responder manager Dick Tracey will campaign for the life-saving equipment countywide. There are about 120 defibrillators in the county but he wants to make sure there is one no more than 10 minutes away from every person.
The mini cruise aboard the Queen Elizabeth between Southampton and Guernsey will take place from June 13-16 next year. Prices start at £349. Contact Mr Boles on 01865 739739 or email advancetools@btconnect.com
