- Sorting potatoes
THESE two women pictured in 1959 had a keen eye for sub-standard potatoes. Those of good quality would pass along the rollers at the village factory and be put into 5lb bags. The advantage of pre-packed goods, it was said, was that housewives didn’t end up with mud in shopping bags.
- School a police station for a day
The village school became Blyston police station for a day in 1990. Pupils Michelle Coles, William Leaber and Ben Frost learnt about fingerprinting from village bobby Pc Alan Rampley.
- Best-kept village
The idea of giving people different parts of the village to look after paid off, with a prize in the best-kept village competition. County council chairman Ann Spokes and Leslie Wood, of the Oxfordshire Rural Community Council, are seen presenting the Marlborough Trophy to parish councilor Aline Smith in 1981.
