PART of the joy of living in York Road has been the proximity of the splendid Windmill Primary School and the beautiful Corpus Christi Church.

York Road in term time hosts a procession of children accompanied by parents and grandparents as they make their way to school.

Those who arrive by car struggle to find a spot to make a quick delivery. The area buzzes with activity for some 45 minutes, then calm descends as the last child is delivered.

On my way to the church, I find it heartening to see that parents take the instruction of teaching the children their kerb drill seriously. School traffic has increased due to unnecessary parking restriction in the wide York Road that forces the car drivers to unload their charges in Margaret Road.

The proposed zebra crossing, next to Corpus Christi Church, will cause difficulties for parishioners arriving for Mass and there will be less parking for funeral hearses.

Parking restrictions in this area of Headington have been forced on us by draconian zealots hoping to make a profit from parking fines.

Residents turn their front gardens into parking spaces for their cars in the wide York Road to avoid parking fines.

A zebra crossing so near a junction with York Road will cause congestion and chaos, slow down traffic and increase air pollution, presenting danger to children unloaded from cars and on foot. Zebra crossings turn children into button-pressing zombies. Parking areas should have been considered before enlarging the school.
