IN all the concerns about when these long-serving towers will be blown up it seems no one has considered what is going to happen to the huge pile of rubble left behind.

Are we to expect large fleets of haulage lorries continually transporting the resultant hard core to some distant construction site? Or will the adjacent railway be used to transport the rubble away?

Whatever happens, it’s going to be a long, drawn out scenario before the site is clear, and, if lorries are to be used, the local roads will suffer exceptional wear and tear. Loading railway wagons will be a noisy affair too for local inhabitants.

As with all big schemes, the dotting of the i’s and crossing of the t’s is left unresolved until the last minute. Can’t the officials think outside the box?
