I ALWAYS read ‘Scales of Justice’ to see how our lenient magistrates are dealing with Oxford’s countless lawbreakers.
In the paper on July 7, one poor chap, 47, no doubt a pillar of the community, was fined £205 and three points on his licence for doing 39mph in a 30mph zone in Radley. Further on the list, a man, 23, was fined £215 and no points for having no insurance or license.
Am I the only one who thinks this appalling? Man 1 was insured, so if he hit you, his insurance company would pay for any injuries he caused. Meanwhile, man 2 is a ‘loaded gun’: get injured by him and you are on your own.
