A MOTHER-OF-FOUR drowned in the River Thames after leaving a note for her family.

Firzana Saeed, 56, of Hill View Road, Oxford, was reported missing by her husband about 4am on March 15.

Her body was found by police early that afternoon in the river behind the Oxford Ice Rink, in Oxpens Road, after an extensive search involving a helicopter and about 30 police and volunteers.

At yesterday’s inquest into her death, held in Oxford, Coroner Darren Salter said: “Mrs Saeed took her own life and intended to do so.”

Mr Salter said there was a brief note left by Mrs Saeed, which he said: “Gives me an indication on Mrs Saeed’s part to end her life.”

He added: “It doesn’t say much, other than thanks to [her husband] Mr [Mohammad] Saeed.”

However, the coroner stated that there was no evidence of the housewife having any psychiatric illnesses.

Mr Salter added: “The medical cause of death was drowning but also diabetes mellitus was referenced to as a contributing cause.”

The high level of glucose in her blood at the time of death indicated hypoglycaemia that “may have caused confusion”, which in turn could have contributed to the drowning, he said.

Mr Salter recorded a verdict that she took her own life.
