I GREATLY admire Sally Reynold’s views (July 7). She quotes Martin Luther King’s wise, far-seeing prophecy. No one has tried his method of love. We go on trying the so-called realistic methods and fail and fail.
Sally’s last paragraph talks of changing the things we can’t accept. This already happens. For example, 40 years ago domestic violence, school bullying, child and sexual abuse were reluctantly considered inevitable and only weakly challenged – if that.
Now these things hit the headlines and are energetically challenged and dealt with.
We have always, slowly, learned to stop accepting ‘things we cannot change’. Let’s stop accepting war too. Luther King and Sally Reynolds are not Utopian dreamers to be ignored with a sad shake of the head, they are the true realists.
