WHATEVER the background to each decision, it is saddening that within just weeks of the Cowley Road Passion Play being disallowed by a culturally-illiterate council official, Love Oxford is now not happening either, due to opposition by the University (of which I am a graduate).
No doubt my fellow Christians and event organisers will turn the other cheek, but one wonders how representatives of other faiths might react to such a ‘double whammy’.
And this, in the world-famous cathedral city, whose University Church houses a nobly eloquent plaque to martyrs on both sides of the Reformation controversies.
What are we missing here, apart from the events themselves? Answers on a (preferably secular) postcard...
