THE manager of an Oxford nightclub has pledged to remove a reference to car bombs from a promotional poster for a St Patrick’s Day student party.

In a flyer, left, promoting Friday’s Kandy night at The Junction in Park End Street, for Oxford Brookes University students, the poster advertises drinks from £1, including ‘Irish Car Bomb’ shots.

A 32-year-old printer from Kidlington, who asked not to be named, said the promotion seen on Facebook was in bad taste.

Last month St Giles in Oxford was closed when a suspicious package was sent to the Army recruitment office. Downing Street said afterwards the device had the hallmarks of Northern Ireland-related terrorism.

The printer added: “I think it’s in very poor taste for a bar to be naming a drink Irish Car Bomb on St Patrick’s Day.”

Club general manager Pete Mortimore said ‘Irish Car Bomb’ was a well-known cocktail shot – a mix of Guinness, whiskey and Baileys – which has been in existence for many years.

But he added: “We take all complaints of this nature seriously and do not wish to cause offence.

“I have contacted the relevant personnel and requested that the offending text be removed as a matter of urgency.”
