A 27-YEAR-OLD Headington man has been jailed after a racist verbal attack on his girlfriend’s neighbour and a police officer.

Frankie Thomas was sentenced to five months in prison at Oxford Crown Court on Tuesday after admitting two racially aggravated public order crimes and assaulting a police officer.

Thomas, of Saxon Way, was also guilty of breaching a two-year suspended five-month prison sentence handed to him in September 2011 for affray.

Prosecutor Philip Farr said in July last year Mohamed Barghouth heard Thomas arguing with his girlfriend in her home in Owens Way, Cowley.

He said Mr Barghouth then heard Thomas banging and kicking at his front door.

The lawyer said Thomas was racially abusive towards the man, threatening to kill him and his children.

When police arrived Thomas was racially abusive to one of them and barged past another, knocking him against a door frame.

Mr Farr said: “The defendant reappeared, shouting again, aggressive in demeanour.”

Thomas pleaded guilty to the crimes at Oxford Magistrates’ Court on January 15.

Sara Williams, defending Dunelm Mill warehouse worker Thomas, said: “Quite simply, July 28 last year is a day Mr Thomas regrets deeply.

“He is incredibly ashamed of himself and he regrets it immensely.”

She said her client’s behaviour had been “alcohol fuelled”.

Judge Patrick Eccles, sentencing, said to Thomas: “You allowed your anger and your temper to involve Mr Barghouth who had done you no harm at all.

“He and his family naturally felt extremely worried and concerned about your behaviour that was wholly out of control.”
