YOU quote an Oxford Mail report from 1956 about a link between Oxford, England, and Oxford in Missouri (Memory Lane, November 11).
I think the report may have confused one of the many towns and cities in the United States named after Oxford.
The Oxford mentioned is a small unincorporated town in Missouri without a university.
However, both Oxford Ohio and Oxford Mississippi are cities with well established universities located within them.
I suspect the report should have referred to Oxford Mississippi where the University of Mississippi is located. The confusion may stem from the abbreviations for their respective states, Missouri (MO) and Mississippi (MS).
