- AN oil painting of St Martin’s Church, completed by villager Robert Pratt in 1905, was offered for sale by antiques dealer Dennis Strong, with the proceeds going to a £6,000 fund to restore the church pinnacles.
Kathy Moss, leader of the appeal committee, is pictured in 1982 with the painting at the church, famous as the burial place of wartime Prime Minister Winston Churchill.
- THE junior church Sunday School staged a production of Annie Get Your Gun in 1995.
Emily Piggott and Stephen Moss took the parts of Annie Oakley and Frank Butler respectively.
- THE village held a competition in 1981 to find the best decorated wheelbarrow. The winner was one with three scarecrows. Brian French’s entry came second, but there was consolation. His ‘wheelmarrow’ was filled with pints of home brewed bitter, with a tap at the end – more than enough to drown his sorrows.
