IT’S not often children get to learn about Japanese martial arts at school.
But those at Sibford School in Sibford Ferris, Banbury, have been the envy of their friends in doing just that.
They have been learning about samurai swordmanship with the help of award-winning author and black belt martial artist, Chris Bradford.
He has been speaking to pupils about his popular children’s fictional series Young Samurai and his career, and giving them an exhibition of the Japanese martial art Iaido.
Jacob Robinson, 11, has taken part in the demonstration. He said: “Chris was very easy to understand and everyone has found his talk very interesting.
“He is very passionate about his writing and the research he undertakes to write his books.
“His talk was exciting but also very safe even though he had a real sword to demonstrate some moves.”
Sibford School librarian Frances King said: “We are delighted that Chris has been able to join us. He is an inspiring speaker and a brilliant performer. The pupils loved him.”
India Harwood, 11, added: “Chris was amazing and I really liked him being dressed as a samurai warrior.”
