BURFORD’S Midsummer celebrations wouldn’t have been the same without a dragon.
This one that appeared in June 1978 was more than 50ft long and a group of youngsters clearly wanted to find out who or what was underneath.
The answer was - local schoolchildren, given the task of making sure the dragon kept to the route of the procession through the town.
Other events included a Midsummer’s Day feast, a service at the parish church and performances by morris dancers.
