I AM writing to ask the people of Oxford to support this year’s British Legion Poppy Appeal.
Ever since the First World War ended – a ‘war to end all wars’, we have wanted to remember the people who had given their lives for peace and freedom.
Ninety years on, this is still the case. Wearing a poppy at this time of year reminds us of their sacrifice and with more recent conflicts, it is sadly ongoing.
The Poppy Appeal remains the source of funding for the British Legion, and it is vital we continue to support them in the welfare work they do with ex-service personnel and the families left behind.
All too frequently and with many others, I have joined the silent and respectful repatriations at the ‘Final Turn’ into the JR Hospital. These occasions have been organised by the British Legion in recent years, in order that members of the public can pay their respects and support the bereaved families.
With the demand for the services provided by the British Legion increasing, it is vital we continue to support them, so please, make a donation and wear our poppy.
