MORE than 500 people celebrated the season of mists and mellow fruitfulness at the Wantage autumn festival.

The second annual event saw local food producers selling their harvest. There were also cookery demonstrations from butcher Vincent Montgomery and Umami delicatessen.

The event was held at the Sweatbox youth club in King Alfred’s school on Springfield Road and shoppers were serenaded by local musicians.

Organiser and Wantage town team co-ordinator Mim Norvell said the aim of the day was to raise awareness of local food suppliers and producers and raise money for the Sweatbox.

Last year’s festival raised £800 for the club that relies on grants and donations for its survival.

There were also stalls from the Love Food, Hate Waste campaign as well as Oxfordshire Waste Partnership.
