Sir – Please, please, please, can someone help me keep Oxford clean and tidy. I moved to this country five weeks ago from Switzerland. I asked for a nice wheelie bin — two, in fact, one green, one blue.

I have bought a big old house in Oxford and I have rubbish that needs clearing away. Many, many phone calls later, I have had six different excuses given as to why I can’t have any.

I have the biggest courtyard on my section of street — but there isn’t enough space — my neighbours are allowed but I am not, the street has reached its quota of wheelie bins and the one that has upset me the most is that I cannot have one because I am the only adult registered at the address. As a single mother of three children, I find this last one insulting.

I am now on great terms with the people who work at the recycling tip — particularly in the landfill section — if I am having to dispose of my own waste, I really do not have time to sort it as well. I am now asking please can I get a reduction on my council tax because of all the petrol I am wasting driving back and forth? Joking aside, could someone please just help me get my wheelie bins. I can provide photos of where they will live inbetween collections, they will be very happy and well looked after bins — if only someone from the council would let me have them.
