IF the worst thing about the Besselsleigh solar scheme is that it would look like a prison camp, it sounds as if all that is needed is imaginative landscaping.
Holly and briar roses do just as good a job at keeping out intruders as chain-link fences and are better suited to a rural development like this. The land in question would still be in agricultural use, according to the report (October 22) – sheep would still be grazing it, so it would not be lost to industry as locals fear. And meanwhile, it would generate enough electricity to fuel 5,500 homes, thus ensuring a better chance of retaining our country’s lovely green pastures in years to come.
It sounds like a very worthwhile venture to me and I very much hope its neighbours will come to see the advantages once the above problems have been overcome.
