ALL through the summer months the toilets in Gloucester Green have been closed and portable toilets have been put in place. This work has been ongoing since April and still has not been completed. The longer it goes on the more expensive it gets. There is no excuse for the refurbishment to have taken so long.

Visitors to Gloucester Green be they, bus passengers, tourists or shoppers, have had to endure this inconvenience in our city centre. It has surely been bad management to start a project knowing full well it wouldn’t be finished in time for the busy summer months.

When the opening day finally arrives and that is stated as November 14, (I take it that means this year) I expect Mr John Tanner (Labour Cllr) will be in the paper expecting all the praise for the completed work and stating how important this has been for our city. Work like this should have been done years ago.

I’m sure the general public won’t be sorry to see the back of the portable toilets which are often in a poor, unclean condition.

I would like to think that the refurbished toilets will be up and running by November 10. This is Remembrance Sunday, when I am sure they will be put to the test by many of the people after the service in St Giles.
