ALLEGATIONS that a 73-year-old helped her lover cover up the murder of his wealthy business partner are “speculation”, a jury was told.

Yesterday a barrister defending Jennifer Creasey told Reading Crown Court she was manipulated by 63-year-old Christopher Symons. David Hislop made his closing submissions on behalf of Creasey, who lives in Hale Road, Benson, and denies two counts of perverting the course of justice.

Evidence of her involvement in an alleged plot by Symons to kill his long-term business partner, affluent divorcee Patricia Goodband, “amounts to nothing”, he said.

Symons denies killing the 76-year-old, found dead in the grounds of her home a month after she was last seen.

The prosecution alleges Creasy wrote a fake Christmas card from ‘Sue’ to ‘Pat’ indicating Mrs Goodband was due to arrive in Stockton-on-Tees on December 22 last year.

The trial continues.
