LOGICAL news that Godfrey Smith, pictured, has been reinstated as a first responder (October 21) but sad that he has to complete a driver training course as a sop to those who sacked him. Surely he should have had a gentle remand in the first place, so what man-management training do those that inflicted this public embarrassment on Gof going to complete?

As a former councillor on the health scrutiny & overview committee at County Hall, I remember the volunteer ambulance workers were key to reaching those with medical issues, particularly when the ambulance service could not cover the distance within the new Government time targets. What a good job they have all done too.

Isn’t it time that volunteer ambulance drivers on duty are afforded the same ability to break the speed limits too? All it would need is approval for a new system to be implemented that allows for the placement of a removable flashing light device to the top of a vehicle when on duty.
