It may have been a damp day, but that didn’t stop members of the Aunt Sally team at the Star Inn completing a 12-hour sponsored marathon in 1986. It had become an annual custom at the pub during the August Bank Holiday to raise money for local good causes.

Fourth-form pupils at Bartholomew School gave a shilling (5p) from their pocket money to help finance a party for infants at the village primary school in 1962. The girls cut sandwiches and baked cakes, while the boys organised games for the 80 guests. Some of the infants are pictured taking part in a Twist competition.

Staff at the Evenlode Berni Inn organised a series of events in 1990 to raise money for SSNAP, the charity which supported the special baby care unit at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford. The Duchess of Marlborough, the charity’s patron, centre, is seen receiving a cheque for £2,200 from, left to right, Mauvien Webb, Jeff McIntyre, Gerry Sharples and Marlene Turner.
