A STUDY has been carried out for evidence of “nightlife” at Oxford’s only lap-dancing club.

Experts have been on the hunt for bats – to make sure it is safe to demolish the Oxpens building, which houses The Lodge.

As part of plans to redevelop the Westgate Centre, Oxford City Council is planning to make room for a temporary car park at the Oxpens site.

But this means that the toilets in the Oxpens coach park and The Lodge Gentleman’s Club – which it owns – will have to go.

This means experts have scoured the building for evidence of bats, many species of which are protected by law.

But a report submitted to the council says there was no evidence of bats roosting in the building.

It goes on to say: “It is considered unlikely that bats would begin roosting within these buildings in the near future.”

It is expected that the building will be demolished in 2015 and a temporary car park will be created to provide 250 spaces, with an option for a deck above it with 109 spaces.

The report says that if any bats are found work will have to stop and an ecologist contacted.
