A former Oxford councillor who ran for Parliament in the city is launching a bill to bring Britain’s rail network back into public ownership.
Caroline Lucas, the Green MP for Brighton Pavilion who used to be a councillor for St Clements and stood in Oxford East in 1992, had her bill read for the second time in parliament on Thursday.
Ms Lucas claims the Government should regain control of rail franchises when they come up for expiry, or if private companies break the terms of their franchises.
