A MAN hoping to open a mosque in Chipping Norton said he was shocked and upset after receiving a “nasty” leaflet through his door.
Town councillor and father-of-three Tahirul Hasan was set to convert a shop in Hitchman’s Mews into a mosque after securing planning permission in February.
But the shop’s landlord George Wissinter withdrew his offer of a lease after he received threatening phone calls, and until he received the support of Prime Minister and Witney MP David Cameron, Mr Hasan thought his plans were in tatters.
Now he has received a leaflet urging people not to re-elect Mr Cameron and warning residents about the ‘dangers’ of allowing a mosque to be opened in the town.
