LIKE W Buckingham (October 10) I recently had a full hip replacement in the JR Trauma Centre. Within 15 minutes of arriving by ambulance at Accident and Emergency, I had been examined by the trauma team and was on my way to X-ray. No long queues waiting to be seen.

After X-ray, I was admitted to the trauma ward and operated on the following morning. During the following seven days I received all the drugs necessary to aid my recovery and the meals were satisfactory.

I was moved to the Abingdon Community Hospital for continuing treatment including physiotherapy and occupational therapy. The treatment and individual care shown to me and the other patients the ward was excellent. The food was prepared and served as you would expect in a first-class restaurant.

Each member of staff, doctors, nurses, therapists, kitchen and dining room staff were all first-class. The NHS couldn’t have done any better.
