A NEW “liquid delicatessen” has opened in Oxford.
Demijohn sells more than 50 liqueurs, spirits, whiskies, oils and vinegars which are dispensed into re-useable bottles.
The business, set up by former army officer Angus Ferguson, is now trading in Little Clarendon Street, following a £30,000 investment.
Seven new jobs have been created at the site, which is the largest of the company’s four stores.
The others are in Edinburgh, Glasgow and York.
Mr Ferguson said: “From our humble beginnings with one small shop in Edinburgh nine years ago, we are now expanding to our fourth shop.
“We have recently had a big demand in the Oxfordshire area for our products so it made sense to open our first southern England shop here.
“With Oxford being such a centre for fine food and drink, as well as having a healthy visitor market, we are becoming a great foodie attraction.”
Demijohn has opened on the site of photography and print business Blue Amigo, which closed unexpectedly last January with customers claiming orders had not been fulfilled.
The freehold is owned by Oxford University’s Somerville College and Mr Ferguson invited the college’s principal, Dr Alice Prochaska, to cut the ribbon at the officially opening.
