SIMON Baker hadn’t quite mastered the technique of riding his bike and eating candyfloss at the same time.

He was one of many revellers who attended the second annual carnival on the streets of Osney Island in Oxford in 1985.

Attractions included a display of break dancing, an all-women morris dancing team, two merry-go-rounds and 20 stalls.

The event was in aid of Helen House hospice, the Royal National Institute for the Blind, cancer relief and the Ethiopian famine fund.
