TEACHERS will go on strike tomorrow in a dispute that will affect at least 55 schools across the county.

About a fifth of the 278 schools in Oxfordshire have announced they will be closed for the day or partially closed because of the action. Schools that stay open are also likely to be affected.

Members of the National Union of Teachers (NUT) and National Association of Schoolmasters and Union of Women Teachers (NASUWT) are involved in the strike action, which is the second part of a nationwide strike over teachers’ pay, pensions and working conditions.

in response to proposed changes to pay and pensions.

Two schools staying open are West Kidlington Nursery school and St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School in Headley Way, Oxford.

Schools that will close completely include Botley School, Rose Hill Primary School, St Andrew’s Church of England Primary School in Headington and The Cooper School in Bicester. Some secondary schools, including Chipping Norton School, are to remain open for sixth form students.

County council member for education, Melinda Tilley, said: “We’re encouraging schools to give the most timely information possible, directly to pupils and parents, to local media outlets and to the council for the purposes of keeping the website up-to-date.”
