Sir – I read with interest of the city council’s decision not to take enforcement action against the University for occupying its new blocks at Port Meadow in spite of planning conditions not being met (Report, September 26), simply warning it that occupation would be “at its own risk”.

I take from this that compliance with planning law is now discretionary and can be ignored at my own risk.

I am sure such relaxation of planning controls will greatly enhance the beauty of our city, as the University has managed at Port Meadow. I have decided to build an extension, probably five storeys high.
