Police officers were called out to rescue a man stuck upside down in a field – only to find it was a scarecrow.

A member of the public reported a pair of legs sticking out of the ground near The Plough Pub, in Little Bourton, on the evening of Sunday, October 6.

Two officers found it was actually an entry in the village’s scarecrow competition created by 60-year-old pub landlord Sam Harrison.

He said the officers were “not in the mood for laughing” and suggested he move the scarecrow – which was placed near the pub car park overlooking the main road.
